Entry Terms and Conditions

Over 18’s

The theme of the competition is ‘Water and our World’

Only original work completed within the past year will be considered.

Submissions are limited to one entry per artist.

Artists aged 18 and under can enter our young artist competition. See separate Terms and Conditions.

Paintings based on reference photographs must have been taken by the artist or used with the permission of the photographer.

2D works in the following mediums will be accepted:

  •  Watercolour and oils
  •  Sketches
  •  Photography

Sculpture, printed and digital works are not accepted.

AI generated artwork is not accepted.

Entrants must live in the UK at the time of submission.

Entries should be no larger than A3 (297 x 420 mm / 11.7 x 16.5 inches), excluding frame.

Entry opens 1 May 2024 and closes 31 July 2024.

Shortlisting of entries will take place between 1-16 August 2024.

Artists of shortlisted entries will be contacted by 17 August 2024 and asked to submit their works for finaljudging and exhibition. Works can be delivered between 10am-4pm on 17-31 August 2024 to the HowberyPark Estates office (Manor House, Howbery Park, Wallingford, OX10 8BA). Please ensure your work is clearly labelled on the back with your name.

Shortlisted works will be exhibited from 9-13 September 2024 at the Manor House, Howbery Park.

Final judging will take place prior to the exhibition with the winners announced on 9 September 2024.

A prize of £500 will be awarded to the winning artist.

Two prizes of £250 will be awarded to highly commended works.

A panel of judges will be selected by HR Wallingford. They will select a strictly limited number of works for exhibition. Their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Submission of entry in this competition automatically constitutes acceptance of all the competition rules and agreement to allow HR Wallingford Group to publish, republish and repurpose entries in print and digital formats including but not limited to promotion materials, websites and social media channels.

Exhibition Terms and Conditions

All works finally accepted for the 2024 exhibition must be left with the organisers throughout the various preparation phases and until the exhibition closes on 13 September 2024.

Whilst all care will be taken, the exhibition organisers cannot be held liable for any loss or damage to works occurring in the normal course of handling or whilst on exhibition, whether such damage is caused by the exhibition organisers or otherwise. You may want to insure your work/s from the time you send/deliver them until the time you are able to collect them.

If delivering your work in person, you will need to unpack it and take away the packing material with you.

If sending in your work by courier, only crate packaging will be kept if in good, reusable condition.

Works must be collected between 14-20 September 2024 from the Manor House, Howbery Park. If using a courier, please ensure they have your registration number and your name. If works are not collected on the stated days they will be disposed of.

Your work must be original and framed suitably (canvases excepted) and should be ready to hang.

Outlandish frame designs or metal frames could jeopardise the hanging of your work. Clip frames are not permitted.
