Entry Terms and Conditions

18 and under

The theme of the competition is ‘Gardens for a changing climate’.

Only original work completed within the past year will be considered.

Submissions are limited to one entry per artist.

Children under the age of 18 will need permission to enter the competition from a parent or responsible adult.

Paintings based on reference photographs must have been taken by the artist or used with the permission of the photographer.

Entries should be no larger than a postcard (148 x 105mm / 5.8 x 4.2 inches), which is the equivalent of A6.

Entry opens 5 May 2026 and closes 18 September 2026.

Artworks must be submitted to Howbery Park by 18 September 2026, either by hand in the Manor Café, or posted to  Art Competition, the Howbery Park Estates office, Manor House, Howbery Park, Wallingford, OX10 8BA.

Shortlisting of entries will take place between 28 September – 2 October 2026.

Works will be exhibited from 7-9 October 2026 at the Manor House, Howbery Park.

Final judging will take place prior to the exhibition with the winners announced on 6 October 2026.

A prize of a £50 voucher will be awarded to the winning artists in two categories – ages 4-11, and ages 12-18. A £250 voucher for art supplies will also be awarded to the nominated school or youth group of the winning artist.

A panel of judges will be selected by HR Wallingford. They will select a strictly limited number of works for exhibition. Their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Submission of entry in this competition automatically constitutes acceptance of all the competition rules and agreement to allow HR Wallingford to publish, republish and repurpose entries in print and digital formats including but not limited to magazines, promotion materials, websites, databases and as part of downloadable digital products.

Postcards will be exhibited at the organisers’ discretion. Whilst all care will be taken, the exhibition organisers cannot be held liable for any loss or damage to works occurring in the normal course of handling or whilst on exhibition, whether such damage is caused by the exhibition organisers or otherwise.

If you wish to retrieve your postcard, it must be collected between 12-16 October 2026 (10am-4pm) from the Manor House, Howbery Park.
